Certified artists receive limited permission to display the Maker Verified Mark while certification remains active. These guidelines explain where the Mark may appear, how certification may be described and which uses are prohibited.
MARK USAGE GUIDELINES
Use the Maker Verified Mark accurately and protect what it means.
WHAT THE MARK MEANS
Certification of a reviewed creative practice.
The Maker Verified Mark indicates that Maker Verified reviewed the artist’s application, signed declaration, verification interview and supporting information and determined that the approved creative process and working practices met the current standard at the time of certification.
The Mark does not represent individual inspection or authentication of every artwork or product. It does not guarantee artistic quality, originality, ownership, copyright status, safety, condition, commercial value or future compliance.
Web & Social
The artist’s official website, portfolio website, About page, footer, social-media profile, social posts and email signature.
Professional Materials
Biography, portfolio, press kit, marketing materials, exhibition materials, booth signage, business cards and other materials describing the certified artist’s practice.
Profiles & Listings
Marketplace artist profiles and product listings when the placement accurately describes the certified creative practice and does not imply that Maker Verified individually inspected or authenticated a particular work.
REQUIRED SCOPE LANGUAGE
Make the scope of certification clear.
Use the approved qualifier whenever the surrounding context could reasonably suggest that an individual artwork or product was separately certified, inspected or authenticated.
APPROVED QUALIFIER
“Maker Verified certifies the creator’s disclosed creative process and working practices. It does not certify individual works.”
PROHIBITED USES
The Mark may never be used beyond the approved certification.
Certification is limited to the approved artist, professional name and disclosed creative process. Permission to use the Mark is limited, revocable and nontransferable.
Use only while active
Do not use the Mark before written approval, during suspension, after expiration, after revocation or after certification otherwise ends.
Keep it with the approved identity
Do not apply the Mark to another artist, professional name, business, organization, collaborator or creative process.
Do not transfer permission
Do not transfer, sublicense, sell, share or authorize another party to use certification materials.
Do not certify individual works
Do not state or imply that Maker Verified certifies, authenticates, approves or guarantees a specific artwork, product, service, transaction or creative result.
Do not make unsupported guarantees
Do not state or imply that certification guarantees quality, originality, ownership, copyright status, legality, safety, condition, value or freedom from infringement.
Stay within the reviewed process
Do not use the Mark for a creative process that materially differs from the process reviewed and approved by Maker Verified.
Use it truthfully
Do not use the Mark in a false, deceptive, misleading, unlawful, defamatory or confusing manner.
FILES & BRAND CONTROLS
Use only what was approved and supplied.
Consistency protects the meaning of the Mark and helps buyers recognize a valid certification claim.
Use Approved Files
Use only the certification files supplied or expressly approved by Maker Verified for the certified artist.
Do Not Alter the Mark
Do not change the wording, proportions, typography, colors or other components of the Mark except as expressly permitted in the files or instructions provided.
Protect the Name
Do not incorporate Maker Verified wording or confusingly similar branding into a domain name, social-media handle, company name, product name, trademark or service mark.
WHEN CERTIFICATION ENDS
Use of the Mark ends when certification ends.
The limited license to use Maker Verified certification materials automatically ends upon expiration, suspension, revocation, voluntary withdrawal or other termination of certification.
The artist must stop making certification claims and promptly remove the Mark from websites, social profiles, listings, email signatures, signage, packaging, printed materials and other uses.
